Maricopa, AZ — Maricopa Women In Business has announced the recipients of the MWIB 2010 Scholarship Awards. Wendy Tran will be awarded $2,000 and Karla Munoz and Mayra Perez will each be awarded $1,000. All three recipients are seniors at Maricopa High School and will be attending the University of Arizona this fall.
This is the fourth year that MWIB has awarded MHS seniors with scholarship monies. Each year the non-profit organization has worked hard to increase the number of awards and the amount of the awards. “We are so honored to be able to select these outstanding women to receive the MWIB 2010 Scholarships and we wish them the best in their future endeavors,” said MWIB President Michelle Mazzola. MWIB raised funds for the scholarships through various activities throughout the community, including selling cotton candy at the Salsa Festival every year, the annual Fashion Show, and this year the group will be selling cookbooks as well.

Awards are based upon a reasonable assessment of college potential, scholastic ability, community involvement, and enthusiasm for learning, as determined from the information provided within the application page, essay, and letter of recommendation. Financial need is not a consideration in the selection of awards.
Since 2006, MWIB has granted scholarships to graduating women in Maricopa. Our major fundraising effort to finance these scholarship opportunities comes from our Annual Fashion Show.
